As we kick off the first full week of 2025, I’ve been reflecting on what’s allowed me to not just make but also pay myself multi-six-figures year after year…
And what’s helped me stay fully booked with 20+ 1:1 clients for the past 6 years.
It’s what’s supported over 30 clients to $10k months, 16 to six figures, many to multi-six-figures, and 3 to $1M+.
And, what’s kept clients renewing with me for 2, 3, 4 - even going on 5 years.
But what I keep coming back to is this: For as much as I’ve done “right,” there’s even more I’ve done “wrong” - at least according to the rules the online space seems to tell us.
Here are just a few things I’ve been told I shouldn’t do:
Only offering 1:1 - because apparently you “can’t scale that way”.
Not raising my rates for years.
Offering detailed, in-depth between-session client support Monday through Friday - including line-by-line content edits, suggesting a follow-up response to a sales objection, and looking at metrics to turn launches around.
Grandfathering clients into my previous (lower) rates to honor their commitment instead of chasing the next big payment.
Saying no to great potential clients - who want to invest - when I know I’m not the best fit or person to support them.
Treating my clients how I’d want to be treated and letting them reschedule when life happens instead of making them “eat” the session.
Including all of my resources instead of charging for them and continually making more.
The list goes on...
And yet, the very things I’m told make me “leave money on the table” or “trade time for money” are exactly what’s supported my clients to big transformations, epic results, and sustainable success.
Of course, I’m all about boundaries. I care about scaling smart and paying myself well.
But here’s what I’ve found:
The online space often twists 'boundaries' into being untouchable - an excuse to say 'no' or avoid showing up for someone’s investment.
And honestly? For as much as I love this industry and that we’ve normalized talking about money, sometimes I think we’ve lost the plot. We’ve prioritized scaling at any cost and passive income over the very humans we’re here to serve.
I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve watched brilliant people scale to a million on someone else’s terms and burn out just as fast.
Here’s what I’ve learned after almost 9 years in business:
The fastest way to long-term success is to scale smarter, not harder and build a business your way that also puts the people who pay you first.
Sometimes leaving money on the table today is the best way to maximize your profitability tomorrow.
And, prioritizing service, integrity, and treating people how you’d want to be treated will always pay off and pay you well in the long run.
I’m not saying my way is right for you (I’m not here to create mini mes!).
But, I do know that choosing YOUR path and prioritizing how you want to make your money over what will make you the most money next month matters if you want to be around for years to come.
After making $1.6 million in the past six years and paying myself multi-six-figures, I know this is also how you pay yourself more - without wanting to burn down your business or working more hours.
And if you’re looking for a coach to support you in doing exactly that? Let’s talk!
I have limited 1:1 spots opening up in Q1. Ready to scale smarter, not harder - so you’re not just making six figures+, but paying yourself six figures or more? Let’s talk. Book a free coaching consultation here.
Here’s to growing and scaling on your terms this year!
P.S. I know scaling your business without sacrificing your vision and values can feel tough in a world that’s obsessed with faster, bigger, louder. I’m here to make it simpler - and to help you build the kind of business that still feels good - and is still profitable - a few years from now.
Let’s figure out what that looks like for you in a free coaching consultation call.
As we’re kicking off our first full week of the new year, I’ve been thinking about what’s supported my business and ability to not only make but also pay myself multi-six-figures.
What’s helped me to stay fully booked with 20+ 1:1 clients for 6 years and make $1.6 million in that timeframe.
What’s allowed me to support 30 clients to $10k months, 16 to six-figures, 3 to a million+.
And, why so many of my clients renew and work with me for 2,3,4, and even going on 5 years.
For as much as I could tell you what I’ve done “right”, there’s even more I’ve done “wrong” - that the online space has told me over and over again I’m not “supposed” to do that’s helped me support clients to big transformations, results, and scaling MY way.
Here are a few of many things
Only offering 1:1
I could scale faster
Not raising my rates for 5 years
Being available for in-depth and detailed support M-F and offering line-by-line content and copy edits
Not charging extra for any bonuses or resources I share
Grandfathering clients in
Guest teaching for free in my clients programs
I encourage my clients to use all their sessions and will give clients extra time on sessions
I get to know my clients’s clients as well as the people who impact them in their lives because it’s all connected.
Turning down amazing clients who are willing to invest but I know I’m not the best fit or won’t be able to do my best work with (I’ve had to learn this one the hard way)
Allowing clients to reschedule instead of “eat” sessions when they or their kids are sick
Obviously, I’m also team boundaries and prioritize covering my time and my team’s time. Of course, I also care about scaling and being able to pay myself well.
But, I’ve found our online space sometimes confuses boundaries to mean “put up a wall” and “be untouchable” instead of what a boundary actually is.
Just like, sometimes for as much as I love the coaching and personal development space I often wonder if we’ve lost the plot - prioritizing scaling faster at any cost and “passive income” over the very humans we want to serve and impact.
I’ve been doing this a long time, and I’ve watched brilliant people scale to a milly fast and leave our industry just as fast.
I’m not saying my way is right for you - but I do know that choosing YOUR path and prioritizing how you want to make your money over what will make you the most money next month matters a lot if you want to be around years to come without burning out or burning it all down.
I also KNOW sometimes leaving money on the table is the best way to ensure you maximize your earnings and profitability.
And, as a coach, treating people the way we’d want to be treated and keeping service as a top value will always allow you and your clients to win over the long-term - even if it “costs” you in the moment.
