"My life will not be an apology. It will be a statement."
- Andy Andrews
Anyone who's known me for a while knows I'm a recovering over-apologizer.
“I’m sorry” used to come out of my mouth so often, it was the cause of one of the few fights I remember having as a kid with my childhood best friend. I remember crafting the longest note about how I was sorry for saying “I’m sorry” too often!
Apologizing is still something I have to be mindful of, and it's a trait I notice in clients all.the.time.
That's why I did this livestream, where we dug into apologizing, qualifying speech, the funny ways we apologize without ever using the word 'sorry', and how this affects our self-esteem, perceived confidence, expertise, and business results.
I've got you covered on the flip side as well and those times we do want to apologize and how to use qualifying language with intention for effect in our services and marketing.
We jammed on:
3:23 How apologizing sneaks into our marketing and sales process and takes away our power.
3:54 How you're apologizing and playing small in your copy without ever saying the words "I'm sorry."
5:46 Why we subconsciously choose to say ‘I’m sorry’ or use other qualifying speech in business.
7:40 How apologizing disempowers our potential clients during the sales process.
9:40 Why apologizing often has nothing to do with being sorry and what we're really asking for.
11:04 An easy way to feel better (based on studies) and what this has to do with selling more.
12:01 How to ditch 'sorry' to strengthen your message and why this matters if you want to stop hiding in plain sight and connect with your audience effectively.
16:50 The message qualifying speech sends and how this affects your bottom line.
20:00 What to lean into in your business instead of apologizing that allows you to sell from a place of service with heart.
22:07 What to do when we do need to apologize.
23:32 Using words with intention.
