One of the simplest ways to book more of those great fit clients who want to work with you - and who love to pay you - is to remember that the goal of your sales call is NOT to get a “Yes.”
Before you bounce from this email, hear me out on this, and why, as Steve Chandler says, “Yes lives in the land of no.”
The way I look at service-based, heart-centered sales is that our goal in a sales conversation is based on fit and a discovery process meant to help the person in front of you get clear on what they want and make a decision to move towards that desire.
As long as your goal is strictly getting a “yes” on sales calls, the focus is on YOU instead of the person in front of you and supporting them to get clear.
This then becomes about what YOU want + need like making money to pay the bills, wanting to prove to yourself or the online space that you’re good enough, or filling spots in a program.
While, of course, as a human, you get to have your wants and needs, as a business owner, they don’t really have any place in your sales process. This is the complete opposite focus and intention of sales, and ironically the thing that actually supports someone to want to move forward to working with you.
So, if you want to book more of those “hell yes” clients who are a great fit and love to pay you, shift the focus OFF of simply getting a “yes” and instead focus on:
How can I listen more?
How can I help this person get clear on what they want and what’s the best fit or solution for them?
How can I support them to make this decision?
When you take the attention off your needs and instead get more curious about a potential clients’ needs, and how you might be able to best support them with your services, you filter for fit, and you help create safety and clarity.
*THAT* is the very thing that (counterintuitively) supports someone to know and trust you’re the right one for them and be more likely to give you that confident, all-in “yes.”
Remember this sales “secret” and watch your bookings and bank account blow up: the goal of your sales call ISN’T getting a “yes” - it’s to create clarity and support an informed and empowered decision.
