Last Monday, my business crossed $1.5 million in cash received over the past 5.5 years from 1:1.
Here’s what surprised me most: I barely noticed. It felt like any other Monday.
This is also a BIG part of what’s helped me create my results, and is something to celebrate in my book. Let me explain
I’ve been pretty open about the fact that I’m not an overnight success.
In my early days, money was tight.
I booked clients right out the gate, but I was making $375-$800/month my first year in business and $1k-$3k per month my second year (this isn’t included in the $1.5 million mentioned bc this was before my QuickBook days).
That's nothing to sneeze at, but I had just moved to Manhattan and had NYC rent to cover. So, I kept my 9-5 job that paid me about $30k per year. I also served cocktails on the weekends to make extra cash to cover the bills.
This meant, I built my business in cracks of time:
writing content on the subway crammed between men in suits on their way to Wall Street…
posting, engaging, and replying to emails in line to grab lunch or in the bathroom stall on my breaks…
staying up after work events to get my marketing done, and coaching clients during dinner time and on weekends.
I don’t share this to suggest this is the right path or even possible for everyone else (mommas, I'm looking at you ).
But, here’s what I remember most about those days: I LOVED every second of it.
Sure, I was a bit financially stressed, especially living in an expensive city. But, I had picked ALL of it, and I felt like I was DOING it.
It didn’t feel like a woe-is-me sacrifice or like I was grinding it out, it felt exciting and fun.
Like, a stranger from the internet read my blog and wants to pay me money so I can coach them? Pinch me.
A client I’m supporting to untangle thoughts and problem solve business decisions just went from making $10k per month to having a $76k cash month? I want to do this forever.
I just got to go to a private gala at the MOMA for my day job, and then get to go home to work on my passion? I’m so lucky.
The point here is I LOVED the process of building my business.
I thought every win and milestone was a gift and a big deal, because it was.
I LOVED being a newbie and learning, growing, testing, and even making mistakes and “failing”.
Loving the PROCESS as much, if not more, than the money I make, is still a “secret” to my success today.
Those glory days aside, along the way, I also realized loving the process and what you do isn’t enough if you also want to get BIG results you can count on month after month and year after year.
I had to be my own best coach and realize the safe investments I was making to help me cobble together a strategy would only take me so far.
If I wanted big results (and I did), I needed to be willing to play a bigger game and bet on myself in a bigger way.
I didn’t want to become the definition of insanity by doing the same things over and over and expecting different results…even if I loved what I was doing, you know what I mean?
This is when I decided to trade in all the free downloads, courses, and group program I was in for high ticket 1:1 coaching support.
I couldn’t afford it AT ALL. But, I also knew, I couldn’t afford NOT to.
So, I borrowed some money and picked up an extra, extra side hustle to invest in the coach I still work with today 6 years later.
I’m so glad I did, because as they say, the rest is history.
To this day, I thank my past self for making that leap instead of trying to save money, because I can see how much that fear would’ve cost me, my clients, and even my personal life.
Bringing us back to why I didn’t really notice anything last Monday when I crossed $1.5 million.
I didn’t notice because I was already loving my day-to-day and showing up for the process. I wasn’t waiting to hit a bigger goal to feel successful, happy, or good enough.
I’ve also made 62 consecutive $10k-$40k cash months in this timeframe ($25k-$40k in recent years) because I now have a strategy that works and a business that runs like a well-oiled machine.
Meaning, while I’m obviously proud of crossing this milestone, NOTHING changed.
It felt like a normal start to the week - not a fluke or super high, high that will be followed by a low, low because I don’t know how to replicate or sustain these results.
THAT combo feels like the “secret” to success that makes it all so much sweeter and the win of all wins.
Because, sure, a pop moment is fun to talk about, just like a cash injection is nice to receive.
But, knowing you can count on your business to generate consistent sales and more money than a doctor makes…all while LOVING the process? To me, that’s everything.
I want this for you, too.
Not the same 1:1 model or strategy as me (!), but a well-oiled business you can rely on to make you great money every month.
A process that WORKS - that you actually like showing up for - so you’re able to work it and enjoy the ride.
And, the kind of consistency you can trust, so when you celebrate your million dollar milestone it’s celebration-worthy but also feels normal and like any other day in the best way possible.
If you’ve read this far, you know you want this, too and, I have over $1.5 million dollars made supporting clients just like you to grow to six and seven-figures that says I can help you make this your new normal, too.
If you didn’t pick up on this already, I’d LOVE to coach you and help you make your own version of business success and $10k-$100k months.
