I’m always saying, everything you want in your business (and life) is sitting there waiting for you on the other side of discomfort.
And, I think we have to stop acting like it’s such a bad thing or assume something must be wrong when things feel uncomfortable in the middle of a growth spurt!
OF COURSE it’s uncomfortable, you’re stretching past your previous capacity!
Let’s say you wanted to build muscle and decide to start lifting weights.
After the first day of heavy lifting, you’d expect to be sore, right?
But, if you kept showing up and stuck with lifting those weights, it wouldn’t take that long to stop feeling sore after your workouts.
You don’t start lifting weights for the first time and think, “How do I lift those heavy weights without getting sore?”
And, you don’t decide, “Ugh, I must be doing something wrong because I’m sore. What’s wrong with me?! I wonder if I can find something out there that teaches you the secret for how to build muscle and grow without getting sore?!”
At least, I’m guessing you wouldn’t do this because that’s now how it works, right? The muscle soreness is quite literally how your muscle grows. Your muscle has to tear a little bit, so it can rebuild and grow stronger.
If you try to find and download the path to muscle growth without soreness from time-to-time, you also remove the opportunity for the growth you want and plateau.
Friends, the same is true in business.
As humans, we’re wired to avoid discomfort, but you have to be willing to get sore and sit in some discomfort from time-to-time if you want to build, grow, and scale a profitable business you love.
The brain makes anything that feels challenging, hard, or uncomfortable mean - move away from. But, any change you want to make in your life or business will require you to think things and do things you’ve never done before.
A loving reminder that there’s a big difference between feeling uncomfortable and not being safe.
There’s a difference between being willing to sit in discomfort and being in pain.
There’s a difference between leaning into challenge and pushing and burning out.
There’s a difference between showing up for hard things and making things hard.
And anytime you do something new and stretch outside your comfort zone, OF COURSE, that will kick up some discomfort. That’s how you KNOW you’re in the arena instead of stuck in the business dugout.
Instead of looking for the secret formula that promises you shiny business results overnight without feeling any discomfort, how about showing up for your business reps knowing if you want bigger business muscles, it’s normal to get sore from time-to-time?
That discomfort is just your business muscles tearing and rebuilding to make you stronger so you can lift more weight.
When you can start to stretch the amount of time you’re able to sit in your own discomfort, you expand your capacity for pretty much everything in business. And, just like your muscles stop getting sore after they’ve grown, you can get comfortable being uncomfortable and create a new “comfort zone” filled with the good stuff like clients, making money on your terms, and success.
Wishing you your version of success.
