Let’s say you had an extra ticket to go see Hamilton.
And, you invited your best friend to come with you.
They weren’t sure if they could make the timing work because it’s last minute and promise to get back to you.
The shows a few days away and you haven’t heard back from your bestie. What do you do?
I mean, you’d probably text or call them to see what’s up, right? You’d see if they wanted to come with so you know whether or not to offer the ticket to someone else. Because, it’s HAMILTON and you’re not about to let that ticket go unused, right?
Do you think your friend would be annoyed if you checked with them before offering it to someone else? Or can we assume they’d be super grateful because it's freaking Hamilton and of course they’re trying to make this work and want to go with?
It’s a no brainer to follow up and would be RUDE not to. Am I right?
I mean, when someone follows up with me, it makes me feel like they care.
THIS is how I want you to think about following up with someone who’s said they’re interested in working with you, thinking about hiring you, or wants to buy from you and on the fence.
Because I don’t know about you, but I have a gazillion emails I haven’t opened and a few group texts I’m behind in, so sometimes I need a nudge or three...even if you've got an extra ticket to see Hamilton.
So, when someone takes the time to follow up with me on something we’ve spoken about, something I’m interested in investing in or gives me a reminder to grab that item I wanted, I’m grateful.
What I don’t think is, “Ugh, I can’t believe they checked in with me.”
Or, “Why are they so pushy?”
It’s more like, “Thank you for saving me from sifting through my emails to find yours.”
Or, “Thanks for reminding me about that special I didn’t want to miss out on.”
My guess? Your people feel the same way and appreciate it when you take the time to follow up.
My other guess? If you aren’t following up with your people, you’re leaving a TON of money on the table.
Who needs a follow up from you this week?
Happy following-up and wishing you your version of success!
