Happy New Year, friend!
I didn’t expect these lessons when I started posting more reels at the end of last year (even if you’re not on IG or hate reels, hang with me, this is still relevant to your marketing strategy).
But first, a little backstory.
My FB group, Business Besties & Creative Bosses, has always been my baby and focus online.
But, recently, it's been feeling all grown up, running smoothly with 17k members.
So, I had the bandwidth to play and experiment over on IG and busted out some reels. The ex-actress in me shouldn’t be so shocked, but I was surprised I loved them.
Like, wait, we can lip sync, write posts, and that gets us eyeballs that creates connections and conversions? How fun is our job?
Back to the two biggest marketing lessons I had to relearn last year:
don’t judge sh*t you’re not in the arena doing … especially if you haven’t even been willing to dip your toes in to get an informed opinion.
TBH: I judged reels and resisted them in the past as a result. I never judged anyone doing reels.
I always thought, “Good on you. Get it.” But also, “Not for me.”
Because?! I’m not even sure I could tell you why. Because my ego probably thought I was a “serious” business coach who didn’t do things like that
As soon as I stopped judging and let myself play, I was qualified to have an opinion. Turns out, I’m here for reels and like them.
fun is a powerful business strategy and magnetic energy.
This is one I learned back in my acting days. Directors hired talented actors AND people they wanted to be around for weeks on end during 18-hour shoot days.
You know who people want to be around? People who enjoy what they’re doing.
You know what got me just as many acting jobs as studying my craft and memorizing lines? Being a person who had fun with my work and life.
Ever notice who you can’t stop watching online?
Who you can’t wait to hire to mentor you or pay to learn more from?
Is usually the same person who seems like they really want to be there.
“Fun”, levity, enjoying what you do, showing up to share what’s on your heart and mind, and being IN your marketing is connecting, compelling, and sells.
And, my bonus lesson: be willing to be wrong and change your mind without making yourself wrong. It opens up so much for you.
Curious, what was your biggest lesson from 2023? Was it a new one or one you also relearned? Hit ‘reply’ and let me know!
Here’s to leveraging everything 2023 gave you to make 2024 your best year, yet!
