Do your people visibly or silently engage?
While I’m all for the power of visible engagement, I’d argue silent engagement can lead to more conversions. Hear me out on this.
Silent engagement can often be deeper engagement because it means someone is truly absorbing your work instead of scrolling, skimming, and clicking.
This is SO important to be aware of and something I remind my clients of all.the.time. when they’re spinning out about low visible engagement (likes, comments, follower count) on the content they’ve put so much time and energy into.
Because if you’re not aware of silent engagement, it’s easy to think you have a problem with your messaging or marketing and want to change it all up…
Or think, “What’s the point”, and stop showing up consistently.
When really, there might not be a problem with what you’re doing or how you’re showing up...but, thinking so and pulling back or switching strategy lanes creates an *actual* problem to affirm your thinking.
I’ll share for some evidence the power of silent engagement: I’ve been fully booked for years making consistent multi-five-figure cash months and didn’t know most of my clients were in my world until they hired me.
Meaning, most of my clients didn’t visibly engage with my content until after we connected and after they hired me. But, most of my clients also tell me the content they silently engaged with that built up the know, like, and trust to book our first call.
In fact, I was on a mastermind call recently with my coach and other 6+ and 7+ figure business owners talking about what’s working on social media right now.
I think there were 7 of us on the call, and *everyone* said in their own way that they’re noticing reach and engagement is down, what they’re seeing working on various platforms (nothing top secret, like reels are currently getting the most visibility on IG), AND that it doesn’t matter because people are still buying.
I share this not to create a story that social media marketing doesn’t work or that marketing or visible engagement doesn’t matter.
It’s to share what I wish someone would have told me when I was in my first year of business chasing numbers, using a bot to try to grow my IG account, and looking for strategy after strategy (and the magic ‘hack’) thinking I was missing something.
It’s to share what I’m telling clients every day on calls: people are paying way more attention than you think.
Your words in your work matter and you never know who needs to hear exactly what you have to say in the way only you can say it.
Visible engagement isn’t the only engagement that leads to conversions, clients, and cash...silent engagement can be just, if not, more powerful for relationship building that leads to the metrics that matter in your business, like money in the bank.
And, hacking the system isn’t a strategy, and if it is, it’s a f*cking exhausting one that will keep you running in circles because the algorithm will change again as it does.
Wishing you your version of success.
