Something I’ve really been sitting with and have a new level of appreciation for as we start a new year and I close in on my seventh year of business and making money completely on MY terms from a scalable 1:1 coaching model is this: not all money is created equally.
After celebrating a million in revenue in the last four years and $700k in the last two 1:1 alone, and seeing behind-the-scenes of so many businesses, offers, niches, models, and strategies over the years, I believe even more than ever that how you make your money makes all the difference when it comes to the good stuff in life - all the reasons you started your business in the first place - and that determines how likely you are to sustain and keep the money you make.
Because let’s say you make a million dollars on any timeline, but you get ‘there’ by burning out, feeling stressed out, doing work you not-so-secretly hate, leveraging a marketing strategy that has you feeling like you’re stuck playing a character or trapped in golden handcuffs . . .
. . . that’s going to be a very different ride and change what you want to do with said million - and even how much of that milly you actually take home - than if you made the same million on your terms, doing work you feel you’re meant to do, at a pace that feels sustainable, and showing up for marketing that isn’t asking you spend almost as much as you take in.
Or say you make $10k months from a place of scarcity and not-enoughness, constantly worrying if you’re doing things right, checking your offers for gaps, stalking what so-and-so is doing online to make sure you’re not missing something, and feeling triggered by every other comment a client or someone on social media makes . . .
. . . even when you get ‘there’, you’re probably still going to feel like there’s a hole to fill and like you need more to feel good enough, like the bottom could fall out at anytime, and like you’re still behind and lacking instead of cashing in on those same $10k months feeling so sold on what you’re putting out there, what you’re selling, and loving on every moment you get to show up and serve your clients because you just know how impactful and beneficial your work is.
Or think about the difference between making a quick $100k by manipulating and lying to people versus making the same $100k coming from a place of service and integrity . . .
You better believe, even though the dollars in your bank account might look the same, the way you make those deposits changes the energy exchange and how you think and feel about your money, spending it, keeping it, having it, sustaining it, and making more of it.
What I’ve seen to be true on this side of the coach and client relationship supporting countless clients to their first and next six figures, and collective millions, is how you make your money not only matters, it’s THE strategy that sets you up to not only do the work you love and pay yourself well . . .
. . . but also for long term success, sustainability, and continuing to make six, multi-six, and seven figures and going on to scale year after year.
