I’m very blessed to see the behind-the-scenes of so many businesses through my clients.
I have a bird’s eye view what *actually* helps people get business results and why some entrepreneurs struggle more to build, grow, and scale a profitable business they love.
And, the #1 thing I’ve noticed my clients who are continuing to show up and make money KNOW right now? 👉🏻The difference between their mindset and their clients’ and audiences’ mindset.
Meaning, they know the difference between what’s theirs to manage OUTSIDE of their business - aka THEIR mindset - and the brain chatter and problems their people face- aka what’s going on in the minds of their clients and audience, their mindset.
This is game-changing. What trips up and slows down so many entrepreneurs from making money doing what they love is having this mixed up and focusing on the wrong mindset in their business.
It’s easy to confuse YOUR mindset for what your clients and audience might be thinking and project this onto them as if it’s the truth. It’s also easy to dump your mindset into how you show up, communicate, and build relationships with your people instead of focusing on them and THEIR mindset.
You might have noticed how easy this is to do outside of business with loved ones. Ever pick a fight with someone because you just KNOW what they’re thinking?
And, it turns out, that fight was all about your mindset and what YOU were thinking and painting the situation with.
Same, same in business. It’s easy to paint our clients’ and audience’s world with the stories in our head instead of solving the problems and addressing the concerns in their minds.
The magic comes from getting clear on YOUR mindset and checking it at the business door, so you can put all your attention on serving your clients’ and audiences’ mindset and needs.
If you’re not doing the work to get clear on what thoughts your brain is handing you, it’s normal to generalize and assume what’s going on in your brain is true for everyone else.
And, you know what they say about assuming...it makes an ass out of u and me.
I tease, but think about how this plays out in business.
Let’s use a sales call as an example. If your thoughts are ‘No one can pay for my services right now’, that’s YOUR mindset not the mindset of the person you’re talking to.
Then, if you hear, ‘I don’t have the money’ or, ‘I can’t afford it,’ if you’re not separating out your mindset from the person you’re talking to, you’ll nod and agree and hear that as the truth and confirmation for the story in your head.
You might even understand, ‘I need to think about it’, to mean, ‘I can’t pay you’ and end the conversation there...or never follow up.
‘Cause when you’re not doing the work to create awareness around your thoughts, it’s human nature (and how your brain works) to paint them on top of everything we see and hear as confirmation. Our brain likes to prove it’s right all day everyday.
Imagine how differently this sales call might go if you were able to separate out your thoughts...if you came in curious and able to listen and hear the thoughts of your potential client and got curious about their mindset instead (your job on a sales call)?
If you focused on their mindset instead of yours, you might want to know more about ‘I can’t afford it’. You might wonder what was coming up for them and feel great about getting under the hood. You might share an example to help them see a different perspective other than fear or scarcity (fearcity).
You might see how you can support them while they think about it and follow-up like the boss you are.
You might help them shift their mindset because you’re not stuck in yours.
You might book a new client and move both them and your business forward.
Game-changing, right?!
That’s the power of knowing the difference between your mindset and the mindset of your clients and audience.
That’s the practical magic that comes from managing your mind, so you can show up to manage your business and serve your clients and audience and *their* mindset.
P.S. Want support getting clear on *your* thoughts, so you can get out of your own way, book more clients and make more money doing what you love? That’s my zone of genius and we should talk.
