I didn’t want to tell you I retired my husband and became the breadwinner.
I wasn’t hiding it, but I definitely didn’t want to own it.
When hubs and I decided he would go back to pursuing acting and take care of the home - because my business could easily support us here in NYC - I figured you’d judge me.
I already don’t have my own kids, so I’ve felt like a “fake” mom as a stepmom. And, I know some people think that makes me “less of a woman.”
I already bring a healthy amount of “masculinity” into my work to run a successful business, so I knew this would have people saying I’m not “feminine” enough or that I work too much.
I already made more than Hub's previous corporate job, so I knew this would open up the conversation about how I’m emasculating my man instead of doing what’s right for our family.
I already left an unhealthy relationship with an addict and spent years in therapy to heal & change my overfunctioning patterns…so I knew this would get me questions about the kind of marriage I have, and if my husband was pulling his weight.
I already talk about topics you’re “not supposed” to in business that apparently piss people off…so, I figured this would get added to the list of topics people in my personal life feel the right to comment on.
I also knew becoming the breadwinner might feel like something I’d have to explain, defend, or disclaim…
"This is right for ME, but not necessarily right for YOU."
"This doesn’t mean I’d coach you to do the same."
Honestly, more than anything - the state of our world aside - I’m already living the “pinch me” dream life and business. And, I know sometimes, my success or just being happy gets me the most judgment, projections, and hate of all.
As practiced as I’ve gotten at holding all that, I wasn’t ready for it with this personal choice.
But, then a client reflected how inspiring and helpful it was to see being the breadwinner AND having a healthy marriage and happy life modeled.
And I realized: this isn’t just about my story.
It’s about what’s possible when you create a business that supports your life, not the other way around.
I might not have wanted to broadcast “I’m the breadwinner” loudly at the start, but today, I’m PROUD to own and tell you, yes, I retired my husband from corporate and support our lifestyle and family here in NYC.
And, while I’d NEVER suggest this is the right move for you, just like I’d never coach you to have the same business model or scale the same way I have, I do know it’s valuable to represent being a successful businesswoman (or man) and the choices and freedoms that allows you.
I choose to be the breadwinner because that’s what’s right for me and my family, and your business and financial success allows you to choose what’s right for YOU and your family.
And, at the end of the day, THAT is what I care about most and want to be a voice for all day, every day.
If you’re ready to build and run a business on your terms, that’s set up to make profitable and consistent $10k-$100k months so you can pay yourself well, feel secure, and have the freedom to choose what’s best for you and your life, I’d love to coach you and help you create exactly this.
Whether you want to retire your partner or build wealth to retire yourself early (or both like me)…
Whether you want a big audience and 1:many programs or an intimate, high-touch and high-ticket offer suite…
Whether you want to scale bigger or simplify what’s already working…
I’ve got you. You don’t have to follow my exact path, I’ve already created my version of success.
Now, I want to help you create yours.
