What’s the difference between perfectionism and a mastery mindset and why does this matter for your business growth and scalability?
Perfectionism is a sneaky one that seems to slither in looking like driven action only to strangle your momentum and business income and impact.
It’s the dressed up mindset saboteur that looks like forward action and working hard.
And, ever notice how quickly the pendulum can swing from perfectionism to “Fuck it! I don’t care! SEE, I’m not being a perfectionist, done is better than perfect.” That sounds like another sneaky way to hide to me.
“Done is better than perfect” isn’t meant to mean take your hands off the wheel and stop trying, it’s more a road that gets you past perfectionism. A pitstop outside of fear and your comfort zone, not your new permanent residence.
So, “If done IS better than perfect”, and you’re a business owner who cares about quality, growth, and excellence, what’s better than done...and, doesn’t land you right in perfectionism paralysis?
This is where a mastery mindset comes into play.
Let’s say someone books a sales call with you.
Perfectionism says, “I don’t know how to sell. I’m not good enough. I’m not ready, let’s not make an offer on this call. I need to learn something new. I need a sales script to practice or to find a course to learn more. My offer isn’t ready, yet.”
Perfectionism keeps you treading water, hiding in plain sight, and sabotages your momentum and ability to make money.
Perfectionism is running your business and making business decisions based on fear.
When Mastery Mindset steps in, it says, “I know I’m always in the process of mastery, and I also know I’m good enough now. I trust myself to show up, get into flow, and play full out on this call. I’m excited to look at the feedback after and my opportunities for growth!”
Perfectionism pulls you back and asks you to shrink.
Mastery is a neutral process that doesn’t make you wrong for where you’re at.
Mastery pulls you forward to continually grow and evolve without attaching the metric ton of pressure perfectionism packs.
Mastery is the antithesis of perfectionism, and it takes “done”, removes the ceiling, and turns it into scalable growth.
When it comes to your version of business success and making money doing what you love, Perfectionism asks you to wait. It says, “Not yet. Not now.”
Mastery Mindset says, “Jump in, I’m coming with you. You’ll BECOME ready as you learn to swim.”
Where both perfectionism and done are absolutes, mastery isn’t something you arrive at, it’s a process and mindset you’re always deepening and becoming more of.
Done, well, when it’s done, it’s done, but at least it’s better than perfect.
Unlike Perfectionism and Done, Mastery seeks feedback and knows it’s a necessary ingredient to refine and uplevel.
Mastery leans into grit and perseverance. It cares about improving (not perfecting) quality and honing your craft.
Done might build your business, but mastery is what allows you to grow and scale so you can make more money doing what you love on your terms.
Tell me, when it comes to building, growing, and scaling a profitable business on your terms, which voice would you rather listen to?!
Wishing you your version of success.
