Do you have an arsonist behind-the-scenes trying to burn your business down?
Is it *you*?!
I kid...but, I’d bet the majority of the fires you’re putting out in your business every day are likely self-created.
This is one of the biggest ways I see successful business owners waste their time, energy, and resources. Because...the brain and being human.
We’re wired to look for problems. It’s a way we try to stay safe. But, what happens when it’s all good...shit, what happens when it’s MORE than good?
We get uncomfortable, worry the bottom is going to fall out, and go into self-protection mode. And, most of us have a black belt in creating problems that just don’t exist, aren’t a real concern, and basically lighting a blowtorch to our progress.
When we feel uncomfortable in business, creating problems can become a pattern and ‘easy’ button we hit to create comfort.
I know there’s nothing that outwardly feels ‘easy’ or comfortable about problems, but for our brain (especially for us high-achievers who get a dose of esteem from doing), it’s like a tranquilizer dart.
Our brain is wired to look for problems, and it feeds our ego when we find them and get busy ‘solving’ them.
But, if you create this cycle, your business will happily hand you problems that don’t actually exist all.day.long., which unfortunately takes you off track and often causes you to miss the problems that DO exist.
Part of my job isn’t to help my clients solve problems or put out fires (though, I’m an asset there as well), it’s to help them stop creating problems in the first place so they don’t sabotage their success and can back to focusing on what really matters.
While a part of business IS creative problem-solving, making those very problems up is another way we stay stuck and hold ourselves back from that next-level of income and impact...and ironically, BETTER problems.
My invitation to you? The next time you feel an *urgent* problem come up that you just HAVE to stop everything to handle, pause and have a gut check first:Is this a *real* problem? Does this actually matter? Is this at all related to your business priorities and focus?
Or, is this your brain throwing a temper tantrum and doing its brain thing? If so, what good might your brain be trying to block you from receiving?!
Give this a try and let me know how it goes.
Wishing you your version of success.
