In acting class we used to have an exercise called the “3-second pause”
It was exactly what it sounds like where there would be a “pause” written into your script, where you were meant to do what the direction said and take a beat.
Our exercise was to practice slowing down before jumping into our next line for AT LEAST three seconds.
Bonus points if you didn’t just one mississippi your way through the break and actually used that spaciousness to fill the silence with intention, emotion, or your listening.
If you were so IN your role and BEing the character that you were able to deliver as much what was unsaid as what was said.
Because some of the best acting has nothing to do with how many lines you have or the words themselves, but how you EMBODY the role and the energy, the spark, the BEing in what’s left NOT said.
Why am I telling you this?
The same is true for your content, marketing, and sales. For as much as you obsess over the right words and perfect post, so much of what stops the scroll and compels people to lean in, pay attention, hang on your every word, and FEEL connected to you, like they know you, safe, like they trust you, and inspired to move into action to buy…
It’s more about what you don’t say - the way you take up space - your energy behind the words you do or don’t pick - the confidence in your language choice or tonality of your voice as you invite someone to work with you.
What you don’t say often says everything and communicates to your people what they need to know -
Yes, I can trust this person…No, even though the words say the “right” things, something I can’t put my finger on feels off.
And, countless studies back this up - which is why big brands spend a lot on research, branding that communicates subliminal messages, and advertising that tells a story and sells you without needing to say much because it makes you feel and influences your actions.
This is also why you’ve seen a post or been to a webinar that’s executed flawlessly only to feel like there’s something fishy.
Your words do matter and are what repel and sell, and the mindset and energy behind them, the words you say to yourself in the 3 second pause, and how you take up space in your content and fill the spaces of what’s not said with who you’re being is what ultimately makes the difference and leads to show-stopping six and seven-figure business results.
