I’ve watched what’s gone into the popular and often booked-out spin class I take every week, and I bet it’s not what you think.
It’s easy to watch the coach lead the class to dance on the bike in sync and think that the waitlist fills up every week because of her rep as an instructor from Soul Cycle, because of her contagious energy, or because of her epic playlists.
Obviously, all of that cache does play a role in the quality of the class, and why we all keep coming back for more.
AND, what I know as someone who’s been going to this class since day one when the gym opened is that those bikes weren’t always full. There wasn’t always a waitlist. Far from it - it’s how this instructor showed up and rocked it when there were legit THREE of us in the room that’s built this momentum.
I also fell in love with the class that day, and that’s what sealed the deal on joining the gym and handing over my credit card for the high-end fees for both my husband and myself.
Just imagine if the instructor had decided to phone it in, to half-ass the class, or cancel it because there were only a few of us and that’s so not the ‘vibe’… I can guarantee you I wouldn’t have joined, my husband would have stayed at his other gym, and they’d have been out two sales and the recurring monthly revenue.
And, just imagine if week after week, when three people turned into five, turned into nine, back to five, up to fifteen, back to nine, and it felt like slow growth, if that same spin instructor had been bitter, acted like it was lame, like she was too good to be there, said she’d wished she was back at Soul Cycle, got subs to cover her until it picked up, no showed, didn’t bother to work her playlist because there weren’t many of us to benefit…
Not only would we all have stopped going, other members wouldn’t have had the time to find the class, show up, come back, tell their friends…
And, I wouldn’t be telling you about that fully booked, rocking class with a waitlist is the direct result of how the instructor showed up and brought it when there were a handful of people and it looked like things weren’t working and growing - because that room would still be empty.
Friend, the results in your business are no different: how you show up when you think no one is watching can tell you everything about your future success.
Stop waiting for momentum.
Stop waiting for the booked out roster, the sold out launch, the waitlist, the big audience, or the booked-out spin class to decide to show up, serve, and bring it.
Stop waiting for the evidence that it’s working and growing to show up and play full out, and focus on showing up, and working and growing it instead.
That moment and momentum won’t come if you’re waiting for them to show up and perform you because the very path to sold-out with the kinds of clients who are willing to wait for a seat is built in how you show up and deliver when it *seems* like it doesn’t matter, when it *seems* like no one’s paying attention or watching, when it *seems* like there are few people to count.
And, if you’re thinking, that’s easy to say when it comes to a spin class where maybe the stakes seem lower, or for me to say because I run a booked-out, multi-six-figure business - I GET what it’s like to go live and have no one there and feel like you’re talking to yourself or to teach a workshop with one human in the room.
Instead of trying to hack the algorithm or waiting for the audience or big list numbers, I invite you to start focusing on showing up big for the next person in front of you and watch how this changes everything in your bank account.
Wishing you your version of success.
P.S. Ready for 1:1 support to help you be the kind of CEO that shows up to bring it when there’s one person in the room and knows how to own your unique edge and serve people well so you can multiply that into a booked-out roster, sold out launches, and record-breaking income months?
