I booked a commercial to play a scene opposite Justin Timberlake the same week I was going through a craptastic breakup.
(This was obviously way before I met my now husband who’s hotter than JT )
But, I was still in my twenties, didn’t have the mindset tools I have now, for sure wasn’t emotionally regulated the way I am today, and I had spent the night prior to my 4 am wake up for a 5 am call time crying.
Oh the drama, lol.
But, I share this to paint a picture - I was anything but “high vibe” AND I had a job to show up at, on time, and I needed to be a professional and deliver what I was hired for.
Which is exactly what I did.
Was it the world’s most amazing day and work?
Probably not. But, it got done, it was more than good enough, and I moved on from the breakup and to the next acting job.
What does this have to do with you and your business?
As much as I believe in the power of the mind, preach mindset work, and believe your thoughts and energy are behind 95% of what you do and your results - the clients you book and the money you make…
Sometimes, mindset and energy and your vibe get sold as the ONLY driver for business success and used as a scapegoat for the other levers that are required to make those consistent five, multi-five, and six-figure cash months.
And, what I’ve found to be true after seven years in business running a booked out multi-six-figure 1:1 coaching practice is that your strategy and action can also help pull your mindset forward and create the very momentum that shifts your “vibe”.
Meaning, you can have a crap day, be going through a breakup, be tired, feel uninspired, just have lost a client, think you’re not good enough, have puffy eyes from crying (I learned that week that spoons put in the freezer make excellent de-puffing tools), be exhausted from dealing with your kiddos…
All of that can be real and suck
AND, your role as a CEO - just like my role that day on set - asks you to show up, be professional, and deliver anyway.
This doesn’t mean you have to bypass or not give yourself space to navigate and handle the very real aspects of being human - and one of the best parts of running your own business, is unlike the entertainment industry, you get to dictate your time.
But, I find sometimes mindset and personal development work can be used as a scapegoat, and a funny, sneaky way to avoid doing the things in business you need to do to drive results forward.
If you want to celebrate the show stopping six and seven-figure business results, your business needs - just like you don’t want to bypass your emotions - your business also asks that you don’t bypass your role as CEO and show up for the practical, strategic action steps it needs to keep running like a well-oiled machine.
So, a big yes to mindset, manifesting, and personal development work - I can tell you, 15 years later, it’s much easier to show up when you’re regulated.
AND, I invite you to notice where you might be leaning ONLY on the mindset and energetic side of business as a way to AVOID showing up and committing to your role as CEO.Are you avoiding the things that allow you to be able to have a business that runs like a business with the core, foundational elements that support you to be able to make money consistently?
Are you taking “do things your way” “make your own rules” and “create your version of success” to mean avoid the foundation and practical elements your business *needs* to be able to generate income on repeat? If so, this is the ONE time I’ll invite you to NOT focus on mindset, manifesting, or personal development work and instead look to show up for the strategy and action your business needs from you instead.
Wishing you your version of success!
P.S. Ready for the kind of support that knows how to help you make your own rules and do things your way - without using those as an excuse to avoid showing up to treat and run your business like a business - so you can make six and seven-figures on your terms?
