There’s a sneaky way scarcity shows up in fully booked, successful six and multi-six-figure businesses that can sabotage next-level growth and sustainability.
You might think, when you’re full and making money - that’s the opposite of scarcity…but, your brain doesn’t always care about what’s rational and true
I’ve noticed as clients get fully booked, have an epic launch, or start to increase their revenue it can feel scarier than before. There’s more to maintain and more to lose. There’s more coming in but there’s also more going out. There are more clients to serve, people to hold, and eyeballs paying attention.
And, the mind can create stories like, it’s a fluke, you don’t actually know what you’re doing, your backend is a mess, you did it once but can you really do it again - besides, do you even know how you really did it in the first place?
It can start to question if everything will go away, you won’t be able to keep up, it’s too much to handle, too much responsibility, what if you mess up with everyone watching or can’t keep it up?
So, the brain’s every attempt to keep you alive and safe tells you that you can’t trust, get comfortable, and settle into this level of success and money.
Which can lead to a belief and action to match that might sound like, you need to do and deliver more, more, more, or keep booking more clients in case a few go away, or fill that waitlist further and further out ‘just in case’…but intentionally overextending or overbooking yourself when you’re already carrying a full load is often a fear and scarcity response, sometimes a trauma response, and definitely a great way to create overwhelm and burnout, not a safety net.
I share this because I see this so often with clients, and it’s a NORMAL human attempt to create a feeling of security, stability, and predictability in success that can otherwise feel foreign and unstable.
After all, your brain is designed to look for threats and problems, not to continue to create more success and notice all the places where things are good and going well.
So if you’re in a place where you’re growing to the next level of visibility, booking more clients, or celebrating bringing home more money, whether that’s $10k, $20k, or $100k months and suddenly feel that urge to exert a lot of energy doing more and more because you’re worried the bottom might fall out or pushing to overbook or fill out your waitlist further and further because current clients might go away, I’d invite you to pause and allow yourself to ground in and integrate and create safety with the level of success and abundance you currently have.
Because while business will always give you opportunities for refinement, adjustments, and new action that leads to growth, integration is required at every new uplevel to create a new solid ground before adding on more to scale.
You can use this as an easy gauge to check in with to know if the pull to take action and do more is a form of self-sabotage or a catalyst for growth, if it’s coming from fear or scarcity the opportunity is to lean into managing your mind and integration of your current level of success, and if you’re coming from a grounded/neutral mind that’s a great place to make a CEO decision and take new action from.
So, before you jump into adding on and doing more, ask yourself:
Is this action coming from a scarcity mindset or worry that you can’t maintain your level of success (or to protect you if it all goes away)?
If you trusted you’d keep making money, were safe, and knew you had the tools to create more where that came from, would you still focus on the same actions? If not, what would you shift your attention + energy to instead?
Wishing you your version of success!
