Get On The Plane (When It’s Safe to Travel Again)

What booking a trip from NYC to Cali (you know, when that’s safe again) has to do with your business results.

One of the biggest things I see trip entrepreneurs up and sabotage their income is a lack of clarity on the strategy that works for them to bring in clients and cash on repeat.

Mind you, I didn’t say a lack of information and facts about strategy. Most struggling business owners have that for days, but facts are very different than clarity of focus and taking action on that clarity.

‘Cause without clarity it’s really easy to scroll the ‘gram or speak to a biz bestie and hear a new tip that sends you off like a squirrel in a new direction.

Let’s use going to Cali from NY as an example (again, when it’s safe to travel).

For me, the quickest way to get to Cali is to book a plane ticket. That’s my strategy. Can we both agree that’s a simple and clear way for me to get from NY -> CA?

Here’s what happens when you’re lacking clarity and the mindset to be locked and loaded on that strategy or when you’re not sure what you really want:

After scrolling the ‘gram, you see a bunch of posts talking about how cool it would be to road trip and how much safer it is post-Covid. So, you think, YES, that’s a great idea. I’ll do THAT!

So, you scratch the plane ticket and talk to your bestie who wants to go with. Y’all are so excited about road tripping and hanging out. You decide you want to make the most of it, and this is going to be EPIC. So, clearly, a mapped out plan in a PDF is needed.

While you’re researching the route and stops and chatting over Zoom happy hours, you think, “I bet other people would love this, too!” Mind you, you’re a New Yorker, and this is before you’ve gotten your license renewed or rented a car. Details. You figure you should definitely vlog about the trip to CA. And, you know that’s THE thing, so you order some camera equipment someone who’s Instafamous suggested and sign up for a vlogging course.

Halfway through the vlogging course, you get frustrated. It feels like it’s not working, and you get mad and feel like, “it’s not going to work”, declare that vlogging “sucks”, and that you’ve been working so damn hard and will never “get there”.

Meanwhile, in reality, you just never got on the plane you had a ticket for. You never rented the car or even got into the car.

This is the most ridiculous example that mirrors what I see new business owners do to themselves all the time.

Get on the plane. Rent the car. Get back to clarity of focus on your strategy that gives you the easiest, shortest path to where you want to go in your business. Then, work your mindset like crazy, so you can keep the earmuffs on, ignore every other possible route, and stay focused on your path and mode of transportation.

I promise, you’ll get “there” so much faster this way.
