When someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made the decision.” - Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist
This week, four clients of mine shared that they booked new clients or had income wins. Whoo!
Pretty exciting stuff. It lights me up when I see people making more money doing what they love.
But here’s what really gets me excited about all of these celebrations: Each one of those results started by creating clarity around what they wanted, owning it, and DECIDING they were going to have it and make it happen.
None of them followed the same strategy. None of them have the same business or business model. And none of them took the same actions. Yet, they all got results.
Sure they absolutely all employed strategy and aligned action, but underneath it all, it started with a shift in their mindset.
Clearing those blocks and DECIDING, “Hey, I want this, and I’m going to have it. It’s possible, and it’s happening” is a line in the sand.
There is massive power when we decide.
On the flip side, when we aren’t getting the results we want, there’s a good chance there are few areas we haven’t made decisions! Am I right?
Making clear decisions is something that sets successful entrepreneurs apart.
As Tony Robbins says:
"Studies have shown that the most successful people make decisions rapidly because they are clear on their values and what they really want for their lives. The same studies show that they are slow to change their decisions, if at all. On the other hand, people who fail usually make decisions slowly and change their minds quickly, always bouncing back and forth. Just decide!” (Anthony Robbins, Awaken the Giant Within, p. 49) He goes on to say, “It is your decisions, not your conditions, that determine your destiny. A truly committed decision is the force that changes your life.”
Think about how true this is.
Your life up to now is the culmination of a series of decisions you’ve made. Every time you make and commit to a new decision you create a situation in which you can alter the course of your life.
Our decisions dictate what we focus on, what we believe, and the actions we take. Before a result is created, we have to first DECIDE it’s possible and we have to DECIDE to take action.
Decisions are so powerful, but many of us freeze when it comes time to make them, and this is what holds so many of us back from the success we want in our businesses.
We often confuse wanting and wishing for deciding.
But wanting to make money and wishing we had more money are not the same thing as deciding we will make more money.
Wanting a loving, healthy relationship and wishing for one, are not the same as deciding we will be in a committed loving healthy relationship.
Wanting and wishing we could fit in our skinny jeans is not the same thing as deciding we will fit in our skinny jeans. You get the idea.
There are people wanting and wishing all over the place. We create a shift when we get clear and DECIDE.
In order to stop sitting on the sidelines of life and allowing life to happen to us, we have to start making confident decisions and begin acting on them.
This is how we show up differently and create the results we want. Massive results like more clients, a bigger audience, more money, and those skinny jeans…they're all preceded by a decision.
When we decide, we tap into a part of our brain called the reticular activating system, our ‘RAS”. Y’all have probably heard me geek out on this before because it’s my favorite part of the brain. This part of our brain filters in what we do and don’t pay attention to. It’s our brain’s antenna.
Whatever information we feed our RAS, it scans the horizon looking for situations and opportunities that align for us to notice and it filters out the rest.
Here’s the deal, though, this part of our brain doesn’t decide for us what’s right or wrong, what’s good for us, or what’s going to harm us. It just takes our information and goes about filtering things in and out.
So, when we DECIDE we are going to change careers, start a business, or move across the country this part of the brain starts looking for evidence and opportunities that match up with this.
This is why after we decide something we’ll suddenly start spotting synchronicities everywhere. Most likely, they’ve always been there, we just had never tuned in our brain to notice them.
On the other hand, when we decide something is impossible or when we decide something is hard, guess what, good old RAS goes about filtering in the information that reinforces and supports exactly this decision. Because this is what we have programmed our mind to do.
(As a side note, pay attention to what you complain about and notice how you see more evidence to support your complaints!)
For those of you who are spiritual, this also taps into God or Source Energy. The moment we decide, we shift our frequency!
If you want to create a result like building a kick-ass business your wildly in love with, you have to first DECIDE.
Worried about making the wrong decisions? We learn and grow with every choice we make. Even the “wrong” decisions can be catalysts for growth and will ultimately take us further than burying our head in the sand ever will.
If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to decisions, you can borrow a few of mine:
Decide to play big.
Decide to stand in your power.
Decide to take responsibility for your life.
Decide to believe in yourself.
Decide you're amazing. Decide to shine.
Decide you are capable. Decide it’s possible.
Decide you can create what you want.
Decide you are worth it.
Decide to go all in. Decide to play full out.
Decide to do the scary thing. Decide to take the leap.
Decide to make it happen. Decide it can be easy.
Decide to show up. Decide to be consistent.
Decide to be seen. Decide to be happy.
Decide to ask. Decide to make the offer.
Decide to do the damn thing.
Decide to leave the wrong thing.
Decide to succeed.
I hope you’ll stay committed to making decisions. As you do, you’ll start to see a shift in your business and life. You’ll gain confidence. You’ll become more clear on what you want and who you are. You’ll begin to notice how you can co-create your life. You'll get more results that began with a decision to make them happen.
I’m curious, what have you decided is true for you in your business? What do you need to decide?
I’d love to know!
Wishing you powerful decision-making and your version of success!
