As you might already know, I use a revenue share model in my coaching business. In this container, I charge a base rate plus a percentage of new income generated while working together.
The intention behind this model is to partner with clients and help them make money. Through that, I also make money. When clients win, I win. So I have skin in the game, and we’re able to grow and scale together.
This is also how I’ve paid my coach for years (shout out to Lacey Sites for her innovation and introducing me to the model), and frankly, I think it’s a brilliant model, that pays me $30k+ cash a month, and allows for scalability from here doing things MY way - aka focusing on 1:1 coaching and the work I believe and trust will help my clients get the best support and results.
Something I get asked about A LOT that feels important to highlight is that while, yes, scaling my income is literally determined by the revenue my clients generate, it’s also essential to me that I’m completely detached from the revenue my clients make.
Meaning, while, of course, the intention is for us to make lots of money together, and I want that for my clients, if I don’t make a single penny from a client’s income that doesn’t affect how I show up to support and serve them.
And, when I’m asked if this is *really* true and how I feel if one client isn’t paying as much as another, here’s my truth: I receive an energy exchange that goes past the dollar bills (which I’m still paid in our base rate that compensates me) that allows me to scale in more ways than income alone…
… in the form of working with brilliant clients I love and believe in, partnering and being able to play the long game through this model to witness epic transformations over time (including monetary), working with clients for years thanks to how this model continues to meet clients where they’re at so I can better serve them (as I understand their patterns and business more and more), deepening my mastery, and generally being blessed to do the work that lights me up and support clients at every stage of business and through the normal income ebbs and flows.
And, frankly, in our space, when you hear people talk about pricing or scaling models, that part of the exchange isn’t always taken into account.
Instead, it seems like the pendulum can only swing one way - you either think about the numbers only and how you can do the math to make a million dollars in a month quick (no matter the way or hustle it takes).
Or, it swings all the way to the other end, where you love the support you give so much that you’d do it for free and therefore don’t take the money part into account at all and end up scraping by financially.
But it CAN be both - it can be all about money AND not about the money at all. There are ways to make GREAT money that allow you to live in abundance and overflow AND that allow you to receive the kind of energy exchanges money doesn’t buy.
For me, that’s focusing on 1:1 and a revenue share model. For you, it might look completely different. But, I’d invite you to find where the pendulum swings to the middle for you when it comes to pricing and scaling models so you can, yes, grow and scale, but do it on your terms in a way that’s sustainable, feels good, allows you to serve your people well, and fills you up.
