At a certain point in my acting journey, I learned that trying really hard to book a part was the very thing that would get you in your head, have you overthink, prove, lead to crappy work, and ironically, often have you miss out on a chance to land the role because you were more focused on figuring out how to contort than you were focused on yourself fitting the role.
Besides, casting directors could smell desperation from a mile away.
When I realized my job was to serve the role to see if I was the best fit for the part, and then let it go, not only did the process become fun again, it led to better work and more bookings.
My friend, the same is true for you, whether you’re selling free calls, high ticket 1:1, or your next group program, one of the simplest ways to book more of those great fit clients is to stop trying so hard and remember that the goal of your sales call is NOT to get a “yes”.
Because trying super, duper hard is actually just putting a whole lot of pressure on everyone and brings needy and proving energy that repels clients and money.
And, whether you’re looking to land a part in a film or book a client, the actual goal of the sales process is FIT.
Sales calls aren’t all that different from an audition, both are meant to help the person in front of you get clear on what they want, your solution, discern if it's a fit, and support them in making the best decision to meet their needs.
As long as your goal is focused strictly on getting a “yes”, the focus is on YOU, your needs, your wants, and for obvious reasons, gets you in your head.
When you shift the goal and focus OFF of getting a “yes” and onto the person in front of you...which you shift from trying to force a "yes" or be what you think someone wants to being open and curious about what someone wants, needs, and best fit, everything changes.
Sometimes, not trying so hard to get the “yes” is the counterintuitive strategy to booking more right fit parts and clients you love to show up for.
