Now, about that experiment.
Seven years ago, I was still juggling a 9-5, and making thousands per month - not the $25k-$40k months I make now.
This meant, after my NYC rent, living expenses, coaching fees, and business expenses, I felt like I was living on crumbs, and buying a cup of coffee out was a luxury.
I felt constricted, broke, and in fear and scarcity.
I was also supporting my first client to scale to their first million dollar year, so I had evidence of what was possible and the know-how of what went into making big results.
I knew the strategy. I was taking action.
I also learned during my acting days how tough it is to book anything - an acting job or clients - when you’re feeling needy.
Casting directors used to say they could smell desperation from a mile away. This is one reason I always had a pay-the-bills gig when I was acting, and kept my 9-5 when I was growing my now multi-six-figure business.
Which brings me back to my experiment.
I knew I needed to shake my scarcity so I didn’t start approaching marketing like “client hunting”. Because gross.
So, I decided every day for 30 days I was going to find one person to give something to - to show myself how much I have, as an act of gratitude, and as a way to pay it forward.
Some days this looked like buying a stranger a coffee. Other days this looked like finding a non-monetary way to be of service.
It worked. It’s pretty tough to feel broke and sorry for yourself when you see just how much you have to give.
It also changes the way you show up online when you’re no longer hoping someone will hire you to save you financially or in hopes it will prove to yourself you’re good enough.
Sure, this wasn’t the only thing that led to my first $10k month and now consistent $25k-$40k cash months for the last few years.
But, my actual strategy wasn't any different before or after this experiment.
What WAS different was my thinking and how that translated into the way I took action.
Instead of looking for what I could GET, everything shifted to what I could GIVE. That changed everything.
