You already know how important visibility is for your business’s marketing strategy if you want to make more money doing what you love. Getting in front of and seen by new people is the first step in starting to build the kind of relationships that turn into paying clients.
After all, you have to allow yourself to be seen if you want people to learn about and buy from you.
And I see so many entrepreneurs stop at visibility alone, and this ends up limiting their reach and capacity to serve their people and make sales.
The truth is, in an ever-growing online space that gets more crowded by the day, most businesses need to go past visibility alone. If you’re looking to build, grow, and scale your business, you also need to build on and deepen your visibility by infusing it with your energy and beliefs by taking up space *within* your visibility.
I talk about ‘taking up space’ (and hiding in plain sight!) a lot, and this can sometimes be a misunderstood concept.
Sometimes we hear ‘take up space’ and think that to mean ‘be loud’ or be controversial, but I’ve found your volume has nothing to do with it (in fact, sometimes that can actually be a sneaky way to hide in plain sight!!).
Taking up space in a way that allows you to get paid is more about BEing an energetic embodiment of your work and feeling safe enough to embody, OWN, and take up all of your space with your youness so you’re able to stop the scroll online and connect with more of *your* people.
It has less to do with screaming, yelling, or disagreeing for the sake of being disruptive, and more to do with confidence, self-trust, actually wanting to be seen, and being willing to share your voice.
What does this look like?
This is the difference between posting someone else’s quote on IG and checking it off the to-do list, and taking that same post to the next level and infusing it with your unique take, idea, or lens you want to share.
It’s noticing where you want to pull back, shrink, play small, say what you think you’re supposed to, do it the way so-and-so said, be nice, or even phone in your visibility - and instead, lean in, play big, expand through your words, say exactly what you think and believe (even if it’s not popular), do it your way, be honest, and show up intentionally.
Take this email as an example: being visible is me being here in front of you - taking up space is my sharing my opinions, truth, message, and owning my work with you. It’s telling you, I KNOW when you trade in visibility with taking up space, while the actions might look very similar, the results on the other side are dramatically different, and your willingness to take up space and own your work is directly correlated with your ability to get seen, heard, AND paid.
What’s beautiful about this concept is for many people this means there isn’t anything to “fix” with your strategy or a need to do more or something different, it’s an opportunity to BE more within the strategy you’re already showing up in.
So this week, as you’re working your marketing strategy, check in and ask yourself, are you playing it safe and hiding in plain sight so you can check visibility off the list?
Are you phoning it in and posting just because you’re “supposed to?”
Do you even want to be seen?
Where’s the opportunity to own, claim, and take up space with your beliefs, thoughts, and work and go deeper into and embody the ways you’re already being visible? How might doing so affect your marketing impact and in turn your income?
Wishing you your version of success!
