Want to know some of the secret (well, not-so-secret anymore) reasons I love content as a marketing strategy?
The truth is creating content regularly serves us as much as it serves and helps our people; it’s actually a little selfish in the best way possible.
Every time we create a piece of content we give ourselves space to flesh out a new idea and test those same ideas for free...all while building beautiful relationships. Creating content is a great way to begin to formulate and strengthen your message, one sentence at a time.
On the mindset front, every time we create content, show up, and share content when we say we will, we step into our power a little more, we allow ourselves to be seen that much more, and we build up our self-trust. All of this is HUGE when it comes to business, sales, and generally feeling confident AF.
And, y’all don’t even get me started on the very real ways sharing our content helps us connect with the people we can help, share our beautiful work with, and get paid (really well). After all, connections and trust are at the core of selling more and a sustainable, profitable business.
When we consistently show up for others with content, we’re essentially saying, "Hey, you can trust me. This is what I'm all about. I deliver on what I say I will. I won’t let you down."
Content allows people to figure out what you're all about. In a world where pretty much anyone can throw up a website overnight and claim to be an expert in something, content shows people you have substance beyond copy and paste creation. This is a big deal.
Content allows us to extend our reach and inspire, motivate, and help more people. It allows us to serve people who can't afford our products and services.
Oh, and then there’s all the doors creating original content can open up for you like speaking opportunities, podcast interviews, publications, book deals, tv appearances, and free travel…
So, the next time you’re feeling cranky about giving away more free value, the time and effort it takes you to create content, or the general grumps about marketing with content, remember it’s really serving you just as much as it’s serving your people.
Truly as Seth Godin says, "Content marketing is the only marketing left."
For some real-life context, content is the number one way I initially connect with my amazing clients and have grown a business I'm wildly in love with that that pays me really well (we're talking five-figure months on repeat without ad spend).
It’s resulted in my working with people who are truly my idea of dream clients. And, it's done the same for my clients over and over again.
