Struggling with showing up consistently for that thing you keep promising yourself you’ll do for your business? You know - making the reel, recording the podcast, filming that course module…
While I’m all about the power of consistency, compounding, and looking under the hood at the mindset gremlins that sabotage consistency and the clients and cash on the other side…sometimes this kind of inaction has nothing to do with having a ‘consistency problem’?
Maybe it’s not that you ‘suck at being consistent’ or that something’s wrong with you the way your inner mean girl or guy might tell you. (How about we tell that voice to cut it out?)
Maybe…that thing you’re saying you’re gonna do and keep pushing back just isn’t as important to you as you consciously claim it is.
You know the romcom, “He’s Just Not That Into You”? -> A girl likes a guy, but he’s not calling or texting her back. The girl has all these reasons why he isn’t reaching out, but one of her male friends simplifies it all by suggesting that ‘maybe he’s just not that into you’.
When you’re not following through on the things you say you will - that you promise are SO important - when you’re not calling yourself back, so to speak, sometimes the deeper reason isn’t your inability to be consistent as much as you might just not be all that into what you’re avoiding showing up for.
Whether that’s a new form of content, new offer, new way to scale, niche - it’s important to check in and be honest with yourself - is this something you’re into? Because this helps you get clear on the action steps you actually want to do the work to create self-accountability and consistency around (and also helps you get clear on what you ARE into).
When you’re able to be honest about what you want in your business, you take your power back, and it’s a whole lot easier to hold yourself accountable and to work through resistance and fear that can pop up around taking action.
This gut check also allows you to stop the cycle of breaking self-trust every time you don’t follow through on a promise and creating stories that you’re ‘lazy’ or just not the type of person who can stay consistent with anything.
So what do you do when you’re not showing up because you’re ‘just not that into it’ or if there’s something else at play and under the hood to address? My favorite question is to simply ask: What had you not show up and follow through?
Listen to your answer.
Often your first answer will be the BS and excuse your brain is used to giving and there’s an opportunity to keep drilling under what that story is covering up, AND sometimes it’s simply permission to own up to not wanting to do the damn thing.
Sometimes it’s simply that you’re just not that into it. And, this can allow you to take another look at what you’re setting up goals and action steps around - because it’s a whole lot easier to be accountable to and show up consistently for the things you’re actually into in your business.
Wishing you your version of success!
