10 Lessons From My Word of 2019

December 30, 2019 by admin

Do you choose a ‘word of the year’? I gotta say, I used to think this was silly and have come to love this practice.

So, if you’re eye-rolling on this one, I feel ya...and, it might be worth giving it a try.

For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, this is a practice where you choose a word to focus on for the year.

This word becomes your lesson, your meditation, and something you master and understand new layers of throughout the year.

I find our word of the year also helps guide our decisions and even our mindset.

For example, I’ll often ask myself how I would approach a situation through the lens of my word.

Over the years, I’ve found this practice to be powerful. I always get exactly what I need from my word, and it hands me unexpected and needed lessons.

My word for 2019 was UPLEVEL. Whew, did this one take me for a ride in the best way possible.

2019 has been a year of massive growth for me, internally and externally.

When I picked ‘uplevel’ as my word, I honestly felt I already had a great understanding of the word. I had already upleveled my mindset and business. I even have a coaching program called UPLEVEL.

2019 showed me an entirely new side to the word and gifted me with so many lessons and opportunities for growth.

10 lessons (of so, so many) UPLEVEL gave me this year:

  1. Upleveling is an inside job. Our ability to uplevel is equal to what we believe and KNOW is possible. You have to think it and BE it before you have it.

  2. Your shit doesn’t go away when you uplevel. It comes to the party wearing a sparkly new dress and says, ‘What’s up, old friend?’.

  3. It’s far easier to uplevel when you integrate the previous level.

  4. Every uplevel asks you to set and hold stronger boundaries.

  5. Upleveling asks us to be so grateful for where are presently and detach from the next level.

  6. Upleveling requires asking for more support. Really and truly, no one does this alone.

  7. Upleveling has nothing to do with money. That’s a lovely by-product.

  8. For all the discomfort an uplevel might ask of you, it can also be surprisingly easeful, joyful, and fun. Leaning back and into this is it’s own uplevel, which I personally kicked and resisted.

  9.  It can be mighty uncomfortable when you uplevel and hand you a new set of mindset opportunities to wade through.

  10. The better it gets, the better it gets.

Did you choose a word for 2019? As we close out the last few days of the year and start to choose 2020's word and new intentions, I'd like to invite you to take a moment to reflect on the lessons 2019 and your word gave you. I’d love to hear a takeaway you have from your word of the year below!

Wishing you a beautiful close to 2019 and sending all the love and wishes for your version of success in 2020!
